Artist's Biography Arcade Latour
BIOGRAPHY
Arcade Latour was born in Drummondville (Quebec), in 1950.
TRAINING
Arcade Latour's career began in the fields of graphic arts, architecture, technical drawing and publishing. Latour ran his own weekly newspaper at the age of 20, and then his own advertising firm. As self-taught painter, Latour developed a passion for the use of printing inks, which he made his preferred medium of expression. Arcade Latour also became renowned for designing the papamobile used during the 1984 visit of Pope John Paul II.
ARTISTIC APPROACH
Discovery of printing inks was a decisive moment and the start of a great adventure for Arcade Latour.
He thus had to master a little-used medium which, when applied with a spatula, offers a wide variety and density of color and a vigorously structured texture, yet requiring a long drying period.
On his canvases, which can be immense, Arcade Latour gives shape and carves inks that will thicken as they dry and reveal luminous hues and textures.
